” If you build it, he will come. ” (field of dreams, 1989)

So I’ve decided that with only a couple days left here in cape town, i should probably write another blog post. I don’t think this will be my last, but I do feel as though my last post was quite some time ago. And a lot has happened since my last actual blog post. My girlfriend came and stayed with us for a week. Which was unbelievable and very exciting for all of us. It was probably the most productive week that I had here in cape town, aside from Anastasia’s birth week of course.

currently my girlfriend is in ghana and you could keep up with her adventure via her tumblr @ loveronica. clever name huh?

So what else has happened? Well I wrote my physics professor a nasty email telling him I should be expected to complete experiments that required materials that were not listed on the course syllabus. Can you believe that he wanted me to go out and buy a basketball and plywood? seriously, I know that I’m in South Africa and I do live just by a Toy’s R Us, but I’m telling you, all jokes aside, you couldn’t find a basketball here to save your life. Basketball just isn’t a popular sport down here. It’s cricket and rugby. Enough of the physics class though. I seem to be doing just fine sans that experiment.

I’ve taken over 2,000 photographs with my new Sony DSC-T70 that Stan the Man hooked me up with. Thanks Stan. Even if you don’t read this. I’m sure some of you will get to see the majority of the photos. The other will get to see them via flickr. I’ll post them as soon as I get back due to the bandwidth limitations down here in South Africa. Yeah what can you do. When you’re in a country that has capped internet access you find that you don’t do as much piracy. although I did manage to get a copy of There Will Be Blood onto my laptop the same day that it was released down here. Crazy. And to think the 6 or 7 people that came over to watch it while eating spicy indian food thought it was such a bore! They did all agree that Daniel Day-Lewis played the role quite well, but to think that they didn’t enjoy the movie blows my mind. I mean I had my doubts about watching this three hour long epic film again, but you can’t say it is a bad film.

But what I’m getting at is life is only as good as you make, or “if you build it, they will come” right? For a week or so while I was getting sick, sick and recovering from being sick I was bored out of my mind. I did nothing. I woke up late, I sat around the house and starred at my laptop, I tried to break my iPhone and instead successfully loaded the latest firmware. I mean I was bored. It had gotten to the point where I was ready to leave. But as soon as I got up, began to do things, felt motivated, I realized once again just how fantastic a time I have down here and how much I’ll miss it when I leave.

I hope that when I do get back home, to Chicago, that I will be just as motivated as I’ve been these last few weeks. And if I ever feel like I’m in a slump, I can just open up my iPhoto and take a look at those 2,000 or so photos that I’ve taken and be recharged and ready to go at it again. I can’t wait to continue enjoying life, back home.
